Recap: Friday in Segovia

On Friday, we visited Segovia, another ancient (and very beautiful!) city.  We walked through a castle and a huge cathedral, both of which were spectacular and were very elaborately decorated.  The Roman Aqueduct, an engineering feat constructed in the 1st or 2nd century, was incredible to see standing so firmly since we learned that the Romans used no mortar in building it.

There was also a huge parade going on that day for the feast day of San Juan and San Pedro.  There were huge medieval characters walking around and hitting us with brooms (interesting, right?).  It was about at this point when we realized how boring America is compared to Europe.  Why can't we have parades and beautiful old buildings like this?

We then returned to Madrid and had the rest of the day to ourselves.  Minn, Rachel, and I decided to take the Metro (the fact that we were able to navigate the Metro was a feat in and of itself) to a part of the city called Sol, a huge shopping district.  We had a great time browsing the unbelievably cheap clothing and shoes.  I think it would be cheaper to order all of my clothes online from Spain and pay for shipping than to buy them in the U.S.  The deals are incredible!

Our time after dinner was spent relaxing since we would be getting up so early the next morning.  We did find a great Spanish game show on TV, called Avanti, that a bunch of us spent a few hours watching together.  Talk about entertaining!

  5. The parade was great! There were tons of people there so it was a lot of fun. I have no clue why they were hitting us with brooms! They were all over the place so it was hard to escape them!
